After initiating the GH2GH project in 2023 and installing the system in 2024 together with our consortium partners, we have finally inaugurated our system to produce, store and utilize green hydrogen in a decentralized solar mini-grid in Ghana.
The opening ceremony was held on February 20th at the Don Bosco Campus in Tema, bringing together our project partners, stakeholders, and key figures in the energy and public sector, including inspiring speeches by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Semih Severengiz (HSBO), Valentin Bettrich (SFC Energy), Nilgün Parker (BMUV), Sabine Ziem-Milojević (NOW GmbH), Julius Nkansah-Nyarko (Energy Commission) and the German Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Daniel Krull.
Our CEO Michele Velenderic highlighted Green Power Brains’ responsibilities and achievements within the project, including the digitalization of the system and the automatic control of all the components to optimize its operation.
The opening ceremony and launch of the GH2GH project marked the first step in driving a positive path toward green hydrogen innovation in Ghana and West Africa. We have more in the pipeline and are looking forward to unveiling them. We promise to keep everyone updated on these upcoming projects!
We would like to extend our gratitude to our partners Hochschule Bochum Sustainable Technologies Laboratory and SFC Energy AG as well as to the electrolyser provider Ostermeier H2ydrogen Solutions GmbH and our local partner Don Bosco Solar. Their cooperation and expertise were invaluable in setting up this project and organizing the opening ceremony for its inauguration.
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection within the framework „Export Initiative Environmental Protection“ under the funding priority „Pilot and model projects abroad“ in the field of „Green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies for decentralised energy supply.“ The project is supported by Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH as the project management organization and NOW GmbH as the program company.
We are grateful to everyone who made this event possible!
