Together with Hochschule Bochum Sustainable Technologies Laboratory, SFC Energy AG, Ostermeier H2ydrogen Solutions GmbH, and our local partner Don Bosco Solar, we have integrated the country’s first system for the production, storage, and utilisation of green hydrogen in a decentralized solar mini-grid. The green hydrogen system is now operational at the Don Bosco Mini-Grid in Tema, Ghana, and serves as long-term storage in addition to existing batteries to compensate for seasonal fluctuations and make the mini-grid 100% self-sufficient.
With our partners, we are driving forward the project Green Hydrogen for Decentralised Energy Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa (GH2GH). Green Power Brains provides the control system to integrate green hydrogen into the local solar mini-grid. We are proud to be a pioneer of hydrogen technology for distributed energy systems in the West African region. Green hydrogen can be a solution for increasing independence from fossil fuels and storing electricity for long periods of time. We look forward to exploring the potential of this technology with our partners!
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection within the framework „Export Initiative Environmental Protection“ in the funding priority „Pilot and model projects abroad“ in the field of „Green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies for decentralised energy supply.“ The project is supported by Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH as the project management organisation and NOW GmbH as the programme company.
